Question:
What is the difference between a public group and a private group?
Answer:
Groups make it easy to organize your contacts and easily target them when sending messages. Groups can also contain subgroups - perfect for managing subset distribution lists specific to each group. Groups can be up to three levels deep.
Public Groups
- Public groups offer an "open registration" process for members of your community.
- Contacts can be directly imported by a group administrator, and also by opting in by utilizing a pre-configured keyword.
- Any subgroups added to a public group will also have public group permissions.
- Public groups are intended for messages to be received by anyone.
- An example for using a public group would be a message informing subscribers about downed power lines on a residential street.
Private Groups
- Private groups are designed for internal communications.
- Contacts must be either directly imported, or by invitation and opting in by utilizing a pre-configured keyword passcode.
- Any subgroups added to a private group will also have private group permissions.
- It is recommended that you use a private group to send communication that is intended only for specific contacts.
- An example for using a private group would be a message informing senior management about an upcoming meeting.
