What is Nixle Tipping?
Nixle Tipping, also known as 'Nixle Tip Watch', is a feature of the Nixle platform that enables public safety agencies to receive anonymous tips from community members. This service is standard for agencies using Nixle Engage or Nixle 360 and appears as a footer in Nixle email messages and on the agency's Nixle webpage.
How to Submit Anonymous Tips
There are two primary methods for submitting anonymous tips through the Nixle Tipping system:
1. Text Message Method
To submit a tip via text message:
- Compose a new text message
- Enter 888777 as the recipient
- In the message body, type TIP XXX followed by your message
- Send the text message
For example, you might text "TIP ROSWELL Suspicious activity observed at Main St. park" to 888777.
2. Web-based Submission Method
To submit a tip through the web:
- Locate the anonymous tip submission link provided by your local agency
- Click on the link to open the web form
- Fill out the required information and provide your tip
- Submit the form
Tip Anonymity and Processing
Tips submitted through both methods are received anonymously by the agency. The system is designed to protect the identity of the tipster while allowing for effective communication of important information.
Accessing and Managing Tips (for Agency Users)
For agency users, accessing and managing tips is straightforward:
- Click on 'Tipping' from the menu bar in the Nixle platform
- This will open your agency's Anonymous Tips page
- Click on values in the Assigned to column or in the Description column to view the full Tip Information
Engaging in Tip Conversations (for Agency Users)
Agency users can engage in two-way communication with tipsters while maintaining anonymity:
- Open a specific tip from the Anonymous Tips page
- Enter a response to the tip in the provided field
- Click 'Send Reply'
The resident who submitted the tip can then respond if further information is needed. Any attachments provided by the resident will display in the Tip Images section.
